ROUTER

Archer-C7UN1.0-edit

A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks, it connects to two or more data lines from different networks. When a data packet comes in on on of the lines, the router reads the address information inside of the packet and determines its destination. It then directs the packet to the next network on its path to its desired destination. Routers are basically traffic directors of the internet, and data packets are forwarded from one router to another through networks until it reaches its destination node.

Most routers are small home and office routers, they connect the network to the internet through an ISP, it can be used to pass data like web pages, documents, messages and videos between computers and the internet. 68573-router-diagram

A router connects devices to the internet by either wired or wireless its connected to the modem, which provides internet access through its ISP. A router is often combined within a modem, so it does both the functions together. Routers alone are fairly advantageous and have few negatives, although they can be very complicated to set up and maintain, also when using a wireless connection there can be interference due to other wireless networks nearby.

Other than that routers are very efficient and allow for easily sharing safe and secure internet on a network. So routers will be useful and frequently used in networks in the future, unless there is a major shift in the evolution of computer and network devices.
